About Thornbury 100
Following the success of our co-screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing at the Armstrong, we’re delighted to be returning on 1st October for the exciting launch of Thornbury 100 Homes, our new project supporting the retrofit of 100 local homes.
Tackling the climate crisis and the energy cost crisis goes hand in hand. By making our homes more energy efficient through measures such as insulation, heat pumps and solar panels, can significantly reduce a household’s carbon footprint by up to 80% while creating more comfortable homes with lower bills.
Tackling the climate crisis and the energy cost crisis go hand in hand. By making our homes more energy efficient through measures such as draught-proofing, improving insulation and ventilation, and installing heat pumps and solar panels, we can significantly reduce our household carbon footprint whilst making our homes more comfortable and cheaper to run.
The problem is that exploring all the available options can quickly feel overwhelming. How do you know whether solar panels would work on your roof, if you need new insulation or how many radiators you need to have a heat pump? That’s where CATSA & Retrofit West can help.
That’s where CATSA and our partners at Retrofit West are ready to help. Retrofit West provides free, impartial advice tailored to you and your home, helping you cut through the jargon. At our launch they will be there to help you find solutions that work for you. They can also help you discover grants and financing options you may not have realised you were eligible for. If you decide to become a member of our Thornbury 100 Homes community, Retrofit West can connect you with one of its approved, trusted installers, so you can feel confident that your home is in safe hands.
At our walk-in session you can chat to our partners and meet some of the region’s most trusted traders. Learn more about how your home can better support your needs, reduce your energy bills, and play a part in tackling climate change.
This summer, smoke from wildfires in South Wales has travelled downwind towards Thornbury. Drought conditions have affected food production, while hosepipe restrictions across parts of the country have left many of our gardens looking yellow and arid. All of this is happening while international instability is creating further uncertainty and energy costs are once again rising.
Now is the time for change. And that change, as it always has, starts at home. So join us, become part of the first phase of Thornbury 100 Homes and help us build a community of local households taking action together.
There’s no pressure to sign up for anything you or your family are not ready for. The first step is simply to come along to the Armstrong on 1st October for either our 4pm or 7pm session. Discover what support is available, ask questions and find out what could work for your home with no commitment required, free refreshments, and free entry.
Drop-in sessions at 4pm or 7pm, on 1st October at The Armstrong, BS35 2BJ. Attendance is FREE. We look forward to seeing you there!
Hear from Retrofit West
‘Retrofit’ simply means making changes to a property after it was built. In practice, this can include a vast range of different projects. At one end of the scale, draught-proofing doors and gaps can cost only a few pounds and be completed in a day. Adding loft insulation can have a significant effect on the heat efficiency of a home. A thermal imaging survey can also help you understand where your home is losing heat, and therefore where you need to invest money and effort to have the greatest impact. Members of our community have also undertaken much larger, more complex projects in their own homes and rental properties to install solar photovoltaic (PV) panels for electricity generation, batteries to store power for when it is needed, solar water heaters, and heat pumps.
We are working in partnership with Retrofit West to support local homeowners and residents to access:
- Trusted information about the types of action you can take to help reduce your energy demand (and bills), or to generate your own heat and power to either run your own home or feed back into the grid
- Advice on any changes you can make to your energy use to reduce costs, or help make the most of retrofitted heat and energy generation technologies
- Accredited and trusted professionals to carry out any work
- Available grants and funding to support your retrofit project
